5 Non-Toxic, safe Houseplants for Pets


Houseplants can seem like a daunting responsibility, especially if you’re already caring for a pet. We wanted to provide you with a list of 5 houseplants that are safe for cats & dogs because we know what great additions plants can be to any space. This idea has been coined as Biophilic design - elements of nature are what keep us humans calm & centered! 1.) The Spider Plant

 
 

The spider plant grows little baby flowers that you can use to propagate!

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS: Bright, indirect light - but, it can tolerate low light too 💡

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS: Cool - around 65 degrees fahrenheit 🍃

WATERING REQUIREMENTS: Let the soil dry between waterings, this will allow your plant to grow up to 12” tall & 24” wide!

Looking for a small, indoor tree? this one’s safe for kids & pets!

LIGHTING REQUIREMENTS: Bright, indirect light - but they can tolerate lower light as well!

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS: They actually tolerate cooler conditions pretty well 🌿

WATERING REQUIREMENTS: Water once the top inch of the soil is dry. This method will help it grow up to eight feet 💦

NEW PLANT PARENT TIP: Curious cats like to climb - if you’re going to bring an indoor tree into your space, make sure your cat doesn’t get too curious & try to climb it! Cats are known to do this to Christmas trees too 😂

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS: The fern likes an average room temperature of 65 - 75 degrees fahrenheit 🌾

THE TILLANDSIA VARIETIES ARE LOW MANTENANCE & REQIRE NO SOIL!

LIGHTING REQUIREMENTS: Air plants thrive in bright, indirect light ✨

WATERING REQUIREMENTS: Give them a quick soak in water about ONCE a week.

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS: They do best with temperatures between 50-90 degrees fahrenheit 👍🏼

NEW PLANT PARENT TIP: While they’re a non-toxic plant, keep them out of reach of pets. Their grass-like leaves will look very temping to a cat or dog 🐱 🐶


5). African violet

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS: It’s safer to keep them in a warmer space but they do well between 65-80 degrees fahrenheit 👌🏼

WATERING REQUIREMENTS: Keep the soil fairly moist. Let them soak up water through the pot's drainage hole to avoid damaging the leaves and petals 🌸

LIGHTING REQUIREMENTS: These plants can actually thrive without bright light ⛅️



FINAL NOTES:

Even if a plant is considered to be non-toxic, that doesn’t mean it won’t cause a belly ache for your four-legged friend. It’s best to eliminate any sort of easy access to these houseplants.

Plants are a great way to make a space feel more inviting & this can still be achieved even if it means placing them out of reach of your cat or dog!
