LISTEN AS DEBORAH SPEAKS ABOUT COLOR & PATTERN AND THEIR IMPACT ON A CHILD’S MOOD

Paint, Wallpaper & Murals....Oh My!

“Color has a strong effect on our moods, which is why I prefer child’s spaces designed without heavy dark colors. It can be depressing and inappropriate for that type of space. Not that heavy, intense color couldn’t work in a paneled library, but not for a baby or small child’s room.

However, if your child is at an age where he or she wants to pick the color of their room and it’s an intense color, then perhaps just one wall in that color. They’re being given the opportunity to express themselves and you’re still maintaining the happy, positive energy of the room. It’s a fair negotiation….

Children, like all of us, are sensory. So get creative:

  • Imagine your child waking to a mural of the amazon jungle on the wall that is sensory.

  • Hang stuffed toys of monkeys and orangutans on the mural for them to grasp and play with.

  • Or perhaps a mural of a farm scene.

  • Hang stuffed toys of baby chicks and cows safely to the wall.

What sheer joy that will bring to your child.”
